For SMS with GSM7 Characters Only:
- Charging Unit: 160 characters per unit; if content (after adding signature) exceeds 160 chars, charge per 154 chars.
- Character Counting: GSM7 basic characters count as 1 each, while GSM7 extended characters count as 2 each.
- For SMS with Non-GSM7 Characters (e.g., Chinese, Japanese): 70 characters percharging unit.
- About GSM-7: It's an encoding standard packing common letters/symbols into 7
bits for GSM networks. As SMS are transmitted 140 8-bit octets at a time, GSM-7 encoded SMS can carry up to 160 characters.
Additional Points to Note
- Messages to Malaysia: When sending messages to Malaysia (country code 60), add the content header "RM 0.00" to tell recipients they won't be charged.
Without it, the message may be truncated or fail to send.
- Concatenated Messages: All Malaysian mobile operators support concatenated messages except Digi Malaysia, which delivers them as separate messages.
